Abstract:
This paper attempts to spotlight the general principles of Total Quality Management (TQM) and to point out how this approach has been and can be used to improve the quality of an academic institution. This work has been specified for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Bangladesh, especially cuts across Private Universities and it will cover the whole of the institution, administrative structure, other than specific program, departments, or services. This is conducted towards an evaluation and assessment of the current quality work of the institutions. In fact, the way in which these institutions are working with quality issues now will be compared with the aspects of TQM and the weaknesses as well as the strength of the quality work of these institutions will be recognized. In the theoretical frame of reference, a specific TQM approach will be developed and some detail descriptions of terms involved in this approach will be appraised.

Aims and objectives of this paper are as follows:
1. To snap a quality shot from educational institutions
2. To watch over quality functions in educational institutions
3. To judge and measure existing quality functions
4. To dissect current quality works of educational institutions with TQM strategies
5. To guide the institutions as a way to develop quality

Methodologies:
1. Survey of a number of Universities
2. Direct observation
3. Questionnaire and interview to collect data
4. Analysis of data from literature, scientific articles, books and web pages
5. Data analysis with the use of abduction methodology
6. Using statistical tools for quantitative analysis

Results:
This is an approach having specified direction to identify the possible existing problems in HEIs. The analysis of the data provides how the problems can be resolved which follows an aftermath of reaching a decision with sufficient recommendations and suggestions for assuring quality education.

Conclusion:
The author is aimed to provide a complete documentation in its kind in the field of quality assurance and Total Quality Management, which can facilitate educational institutions to the quality improvement of higher education.
