PROMOTION OF INTEREST IN AVIATION AND THE ENVIRONMENT THROUGH ELEMENTARY EDUCATION IN CHILDREN FROM 4 TO 6 YEARS OLD

Abstract:
The future of Mexico and the world is responsibility of the new generations of children and young people who will take care of the Earth. For this reason it is imperative to create and encourage an environmental culture and awareness, with help of the aviation, to teach the children in a dynamic way to take care of the planet with actions, thereby they turn themselves into professionals that contemplate the environment.
The objective of this work is to create concepts and an attraction for aviation and the environment in children of elementary school, reinforce created concepts, promote a good environmental culture, and evaluate the interest generated in the children.
Aviation is used as a very striking subject in the eyes of children, which awake an interest in learning, in this way, once the attention of children is captured, aviation is used as a channel through which children cultivate and develop an interest in the environment.
Children aged between 4 and 6 years are chosen because it is the age range where in Mexico the first, second and third grades of kindergarten are taught, teaching, and working with children is a commitment to the future, since they will be the ones create the new technologies and tools that will improve the world, generating a positive environmental and social impact.
The proposed methodology includes the exposure of the meaning of aviation through images, maps and didactic material so that children generate a first concept of aviation. Then, the children take part in recreational and dynamic activities, as groups and individually, and they will reshape and work on the concept of aviation and caring for planet earth. Finally, the children will be asked how their perspective on aviation and the environment has changed before the activities and after them.
Now, a new question arises; what is the relationship between aviation and the environment? The relationship is the effect that the aviation industry has on the environment. The main problem is the exponential emission of CO2, however there are other problems like water, acoustic, and soil contamination among the most common, which is why aviation must reduce its impact on the environment.
The results expected from this study are to create, and develop concepts and awaken the interest of children about aviation and environmental care, and that children recreate the activities with their friends and family to disseminate and give more exposure to environmental care. Their interest will become the seed for the existence of future pilots, engineers, aeronautical technical personnel, or the profession they wish to practice, as individuals and as a society interested in taking care of the planet, because children are the future of the world.
