Abstract:
Presentation of an innovative, web-based distance delivered course covering the knowledge, skills, and values needed for effective social work practice with older adults and their families. Demonstrate of the teaching of geriatric social work practice utilizing Blackboard, a course management system that allows for dynamic learning to occur in the online environment. The course covers thematic units of successful aging, diversity, physical health, mental health, planning for later years, end of life care, and health care system/health policy issues. An extensive syllabus will be provided at the presentation and copies of other pertinent course material, if desireable. The course consists of learning modules provided for each week of the course, consisting of PowerPoint presentations, streaming video presentations from the Growing Old in a New Age Video Instructional Series, and other videos, CD-ROMs focusing on core areas of practice, assessment tools, and related Internet resources, such as American Geriatrics Society's "Geriatrics at your Fingertips". The PowerPoint presentations include sound and links to Internet resources to elaborate content areas.
