Abstract:
Institutional research, nowadays, play an important role in the management of quality in higher education. Issues of quality and impact are central to research policy in many countries around the world.
Research has interactions today in all society sectors either by improving the quality of work or life of people. Technology transfer and knowledge transfer are key factors on improving competitiveness. Research must be the engine together with the transfer of technology and knowledge transfer to drive innovation and enable companies to achieve higher levels of development and social welfare.
There is thus a need for individual researchers, researchers groups, funding agencies and commercial companies to have management systems for research outputs: grants, publications, patents, awards, seminars or research events among others; so these recent years there is an increasing of the amount of scientific production needed to by published to society and the use of software tools has increased affecting the visibility of scientific production at universities. Researchers use tools to generate CV, entry of scientific output, requests for funds or reporting of scientific production among others services.
The scientific output portal is a software developed by SIGMA Gestión universitaria A.I.E (SIGMA) in collaboration with University Pompeu Fabra (UPF) that allows to find and visualize all the scientific output of an institution, grouped by researcher, department, research center or research figure (groups, units…) in an Open Access way, accessible from the University’s Portal and with free access to the scientific community and society. It also links the full document, available in institutional repositories. Providing an URL, any researcher can access directly to his scientific production which can be allocated to other websites, his own blog, twitter, or so on.
Also, the scientific output portal generates the researcher CV in several formats, including CVN, the normalized CV. The information shown in PPC is also used in other activities, like research reports (annual Reports, decision-making).
The main goal is disseminate the scientific output of the institution to improve their scientific impact, visibility, and Rankings; increasing the University-industry relationship and society approach.
