Abstract:
Nowadays, new additive manufacturing technologies are gaining ground as an effective tool for the development of new components. It is crucial in the industrial field to understand the pros and cons that these emerging technologies can bring when designing a component. In this paper, the design and optimisation process of an innovative component using additive manufacturing is explored. This component is designed to enable the safe vertical installation of hoses in high-rise buildings, which not only improves working conditions, but also reduces risks during firefighter operations. Additive manufacturing has enabled the integration of two channels by eliminating the need for a bifurcation and allowing the connection of two hoses without additional components. This feature not only reduces the overall volume and weight of the equipment, but also provides greater flexibility and mobility for firefighters in emergency situations. This example highlights the importance of incorporating content related to new additive manufacturing technologies into higher education subjects in industrial branches. This will ensure that future professionals are familiar with the possibilities and limitations of these evolving technologies.
