ETHICAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY IN HIGHER EDUCATION. THE CASE OF IT GOVERNANCE

Abstract:
Objective:
The objective of the paper is to present an activitiy that allows students to work the competence of Ethical, Environmental and Professional Responsibility in the IT Governance Course of the first year of the master degree in computer science of the Universitat Politècnica de València.

Methodology:
Two activities were developed the 2015/2016 academic year:
• Activity 1: Oriented to ethical and professional responsibility.
O Objective: To show and to argue the pertinence of behaviors and judgments that are emitted.
O Development: Presentation of a case study by a company, which showed various issues that can lead to conflicts or ethical dilemmas in the profession. Following this case study a task was proposed that gave continuity to the study and where the student would expand the aspects seen in class and answer different questions.
• Activity 2: Focusing on environmental responsibility
O Objective To show and argue the added value that an investment proposal will provide to the organization, including aspects of social and environmental cost and benefit.
O Development: The analysis of a case study published in the news was carried out and a it was propose a similar study indicating, among other things: value for the organization, stakeholders involved, etc. It is mandatory to include aspects of social and environmental impact.

Results:
The results (within the limitations found) have been positive for both teachers and students.

Problems detected:
- Lack of training of teachers to assess the scope of this transversal competence.
