Abstract:
Modern education can not be isolated from the newest comunication technologies that are spread all over the world and the vast amount and diversity of information available. Both teachers and students must get familiar with information and comunication technologies (ICT) as means to reinforce and facilitate teaching and learning [1]. Although production and development of educational material making use of ICT may demand big efforts they usually lead to maximal benefit for the best results in university education [2, 3].
A group of teachers at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (FES Zaragoza, UNAM) has become committed to incorporate ICT-based strategies into their teaching practice and to promote development of ICT competence at our University. Therefore, we have offered various courses on design of digital graphs, production of electronic books and usage of various programs (Flash, Access, etc.). We also give advice on how to properly prepare didactic materials or to perform mathematics and statistics calculations. Several books and manuals have been made available in electronic or printed versions. Some of the books available are dealing with Listeria monocytogenes, Medical Microbiology and Normalized procedures for operation of equipment from the Biochemistry laboratory. ICT competence has been very much appreciated and it is also becoming as usual as necessary in biochemistry education.
