Abstract:
Aviation is a highly regulated sector that requires ongoing, regular training. The majority of aviation training is mandatory and forms a central part of national and international audits. For this reason, it is necessary to understand the benefits and disadvantages of implementing e-learning and how this can be done within an Approved Training Organization (ATO). This paper shows the potential benefits of implementing an asynchronous e-learning system in the aviation sector in Mexico. Currently, the aviation sector employs approximately 25,000 airline workers (pilots, technicians, flight operations officers, flight attendants) and about 1,000 inspectors belonging to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) who are responsible forthe surveillance and supervision of safeair operations across 76 airports throughout Mexico

Aviation in Mexico is currently considered unsafe according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) after numerous issues have been detected in aviation audits.. Many audits identified problems in the training of aviation staff. In this paper we examined the required elements to apply e-learning across the aviation sector, including people and software, secondments of the Mexicans, technological skills of the aviation staff, environmental impact due to the greenhouse gas emissions (CO2, PM2.5, NOx), inversions and the potential cost savings of implementing asynchronous e-learning programs across the aviation sector. The feasibility of Using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the training of the Mexican airline industry was examined and benefits to this sector were found.
The results of this study are applicable in other sectors that require regular training or that comply with the decent working conditions established in the laws of each country.
