Abstract:
The project that we are developing has dealt simultaneously with questions related to researching and teaching in an environment of teaching innovation that it’s defined by European Space of Higher Education (ESHE) and its interest for developing new methodological strategies and making teaching materials that facilitate the autonomous learning in students. The aims of this project, in this way, are, in one hand, between the researching about the attitudes in front of bilingualism (Spanish-English) that university students, from different careers in the Faculty of Sciences of Education in the University of Huelva, show (some of them are Erasmus students from other European countries) and university students from University of West-Flanders (Bruges, Belgium), because they live in a bilingual context (French-Dutch) and they study other languages too (mainly English) and, in the other hand, the production of teaching materials that help the realization of bilingual teaching projects, for students from the Faculty of Sciences of Education (Erasmus or not).
The sample in our investigation is composed by 136 people (male and female) from University of Huelva (Faculty of Sciences of Education) and University West-Flanders (Faculty of Education and Psychology). To pick up the information we have used a questionnaire about attitude to bilingualism by Colin Baker (1996, pp. 393-394). The results show a clear concern about for training in bilingual contexts. A high percent (70%) of students think that is important «Knowing and training in other language», and «Recognize the utility of this type of training», but, this idea is clearer (90%) among students that come from bilingual environments and students that have chosen study abroad (Erasmus).
When we know the results, it should be necessary to allow the learning in a bilingual context through making and publishing learning materials that facilitate teaching in English language, in one hand, and incorporate new subjects in English in the catalogue that is offered in the University of Huelva, in the other hand. With these actions we can provide a wide range of subjects offered in English language that let doing an official curriculum course (at least in a 50%) in a bilingual environment (English-Spanish) to native students and to allow that Erasmus students can select their training among a well-stocked catalogue of subjects offered in English.
