Abstract:
This study aimed to identify and valorize Unconventional Edible Plants (UEPs) present at the State Technical Agricultural School Antonio Sarlo, with the purpose of promoting ecological agriculture and conserving natural resources, while fostering education rooted in the principles of socio-environmental sustainability. Agroecology, as a multidisciplinary science, was highlighted for incorporating environmental and social ideas into agriculture, valuing the potential of rural territories. The study of UEPs and medicinal plants was emphasized as an ally in promoting socio-environmental sustainability and valuing local traditions and identities. Justifications for the research included improving the local population's food quality, diversifying diets, valuing local culture, and encouraging students to study botany. Moreover, the study aligns with the principles of the National Biodiversity Policy and the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Food and Nutritional Security and Sovereignty. Qualitative methods, such as case studies and interviews with residents and plant experts, were adopted. A Demonstrative Unit was constructed to monitor the development of UEPs, and plants were properly collected. The results demonstrated that the project contributed to structuring the UEP collection at the school, and involved students who recognized the importance of this study for sustainable agriculture and food security. The revival of knowledge about UEPs promoted the creation of new knowledge among students and other members of the school community, leading to diversified diets. Therefore, the study revealed the necessity of further research on UEPs to mitigate the erosion of popular knowledge in socio-territorial contexts, thus promoting nutritious diets. Additionally, it emphasized the importance of fostering a territorial education rooted in interdisciplinarity and the agency of local actors. Keywords:
