Abstract:
The widespread adoption of English as the primary language of science and medicine in the twentieth century has led to a substantial amount of scholarly work being published in this language. At present, in most universities, both English for General Purposes and English for Specific Purposes are taught using traditional teaching methods. This presentation, which forms part of a broader research study, provides an overview of the conventional teaching methods for English for Medical Purposes and proposes a series of tentative suggestions and hypotheses based on interdisciplinary approaches aimed at improving teaching and learning outcomes. These suggestions include, but are not limited to Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), the digitalization of teaching, teaching humanities, and teaching English through art. It is important to note that the suggestions put forth are not intended to replace or supersede any existing teaching methods, but rather to complement and enhance them.
