Abstract:
Many food and nutrition myths are widespread, mainly through social media, leading to false beliefs about food, nutrition, and eating facts that give rise to certain behaviors, from fashionable trends to diets. Academic training is a valuable tool in fighting food myths and related pseudoscience, but educators must also have some knowledge in the food and nutrition area. Therefore, a Master Thesis of Master's Degree in Teacher Training for Secondary Education and Secondary Education, Vocational Training and Language Teaching from Miguel Hernández University (UMH) titled “Students/Future Teachers of Vocational Educational Training Expertise in Food Myths” was carried out. We studied the level of acceptance and agreement with seventeen highly popular food myths held by Future teachers and students. In order to run this work we were required to collect information from students of higher vocational training cycles (over 18 y) in the fields of agriculture and food (IES El Palmeral, Orihuela, Spain) and from the university students (future teachers) of the UMH, the authorization procedure is included in the methodology. Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) were considered in the study to provide insight into society's needs. Based on the results obtained, different activities/actions focused on teachers were proposed to increase knowledge related to food and nutrition. Emphasis was placed on assuring a proper scientific basis for healthy and sustainable food during the training stage of future teachers. One of the most important contributions of this paper is to provide public materials and inspiration (e-poster) for future projects.
