Abstract:
In addition to traditional methods of study, there is a lot of new technology, giving students many ways to study on their own. Do they use "traditional" methods? Or have they embraced the new technological methods? Students are sometimes required to use online and other technological systems as part of course work. However, they are likely to use their preferred methods when studying on their own. Students at a mid-level university and a high-level university were asked about their best ways to study. These students are most likely to have successful study methods as some of them have passed the difficult entrance examinations for Japan's national universities. In Japan, competition to enter these universities is intense as not only are they high level, they are less expensive than many private universities. Therefore, the higher level students, even so-called "average" students often want to enter these universities especially if the family is of limited financial means. Others have passed the entrance exam at a mid-level private university nursing program which is well regarded as the pass rate for the nursing license is usually at or near 100%. The results of the surveys will be discussed along with implications for teaching.
