Abstract:
According to Sadoux (2013) speaking skills in language learning involves challenges, such as conversation practice beyond the classroom and students´ motivation. This is true especially in Foreign Language learning contexts where most all of the materials are limited to the class. However, Kukulska-Hulme (2006) claims that mobile devices have opened the door for many learning resources which allow us to have information anywhere and anytime. Technology provides opportunities for practicing and conversation skills by reducing the barrier of space and by motivating students.

This study will describe how the use of voice recorder messages can increase oral communication self-efficacy and conversational speaking practice between students from two different cultures. This topic has been chosen in order to increase the areas for practicing speaking and to describe some effects on the oral communication self-efficacy. Self-efficacy is understood  as one’s belief in his/her ability to have conversations with a native speaker.

This study will use the WhatsApp platform to conduct a quantitative descriptive study that examines the impact of technology on oral communication self-efficacy. It is theorized that self-efficacy will increase due to the reduction of distance and increased opportunities for communication beyond the classroom. . Fifteen native Spanish-speaking students and 15 native English speakers will participate during one month by  exchanging and recording conversations. At the end of this time frame,  they will answer an oral communication self-efficacy survey.
