Abstract:
The paper is a study based on the European funded project, under the Erasmus+ Programme, SMILE, carried out in four European countries: Greece, Romania, Portugal and Bulgaria. The general objective of the project is to transfer and scale up a Model of systemic approach aiming at creating an inclusive school environment which was previously applied in Bulgaria. The use of positive role models and the promotion of inclusive school education and EU common values are two of the main mechanisms that should be used to support the prevention of radicalization leading to violent extremism. The Model for a systemic approach to creating an inclusive school environment builds its innovation on four educational areas: shared and visionary leadership, inclusive pedagogy, child safeguarding and partnership with parents.
The paper focuses on the objectives and methodology of the project and its main outputs. The paper also reviews pedagogical approaches used in inclusive education with a view to enhancing children’s interest in learning and improving the quality of parents/ teachers relationships. It also gives insights into the way the model is being implemented in Romania. Keywords:
