Abstract:
This paper outlines a proof of concept addressing the development and implementation of collaborative teaching environments in STEM education. The theoretical perspective of this concept is rooted in social learning theory. The paper provides a framework to identify and develop the personnel necessary to occupy a collaborative learning space to enhancing teaching and learning experiences in STEM disciplines. In said environment, science and mathematical concepts are integrated with engineering principles using design technology as an instructional technology. The beneficiaries of the proposed work are economically disadvantaged high school students and STEM pre-service teachers. The goal of the work is to provide economically disadvantaged learners access to human, instructional and technological resources consequently increasing the capacity of learners and teachers in STEM disciplines.
