Abstract:
Literature can be a source of wisdom, stories, and pleasure. Books are part of our life, no matter whether printed or digital. To understand and perceive the depth of text it requires sensitivity and the ability of critical perception of both, the text and image.
It is a skill that can be self-learnt but it can and should be the subject of teaching, teachers should present the basic techniques and procedures to make students ready to work on their own and based on this experience they should be later able to apply critical thinking in different and various contexts. We deal here not only with the ability to comprehend but also to analyse the text, infer the meaning and apply prior knowledge.
The article presents the results of the research focused on using literature in language teaching and the specific focus on developing critical thinking and its impact on the students’ speaking skills, particularly argumentation abilities. The results indicate the students realise the strength of samples and are more attentive and ready to discover symbols in the text and imagesKeywords:
