Abstract:
This paper aims to investigate strategies and techniques that might help learners to overcome various difficulties in acquiring foreign language competence in adults.

Its development is often associated with forming language skills, focusing on social speech. In terms of social discourse, pragmatic, semantic, grammatical, and phonemic language aspects are analyzed to provide a better understanding of prosodic phenomena (intonation, stress, rhythm) and paralinguistic features. These can be reflected in students' success or failure in foreign language learning. The research examines psycholinguistic variables such as interference and affective filter hypothesis, as they represent the most significant difficulties prevailingly faced by learners in a foreign language environment. Learners' personality traits and affective factors need to be taken into consideration for finding solutions to their problems, including logophobia, etc., usually encountered in English lessons. The research is based on questionnaires and analyses of students' self-monitoring of their speech production. This can provide us with ideas and strategies for dealing with their problems while building foreign language competence.
