Abstract:
Adult learners have a lot to balance—work, family, and school—so staying motivated is a key to their success. This study examines motivational strategies for adult learners, including goal-setting, autonomy, collaborative learning, experiential activities, and positive feedback. We used surveys and interviews to understand the impact of methods such as: allowing learners to set their own goals, offering choices, utilizing group work, and connecting lessons to real-life experiences. These approaches significantly boost learners' engagement, strengthen their self-efficacy, and increase their persistence.

Our findings were clear: adults are most motivated when they see how a lesson applies to their personal lives and careers. Providing them with a sense of control and utilizing hands-on activities also made a significant difference. These approaches helped learners feel more confident and stick with their courses even when it got tougher. For teachers, this study provides practical, evidence-based guidance on creating classrooms that support and inspire adult learners.
