Abstract:

The article examines the distinction between andragogy and pedagogy as a crucial principle for understanding the dynamics of adult learning. Comparing the theories of prominent researchers of the given fields this article explores the key postulates that differentiate these two approaches, emphasizing how they impact adult classroom success. Andragogic approaches are more learner-centered focused, acknowledging the experience, and intrinsic motivation of adults; while, on the other hand, pedagogy mostly relies more on the teacher's authority and structured content delivery. We used various methods such as direct observation and analyzing different types of questionnaires filled out by both sides (teachers, as well as, students of different ages) and tried to provide valuable findings that will help to put theory in practice and also highlight practical strategies for educators to comprise both andragogical and pedagogical principles to create an optimal learning environment for adults.
