Abstract:
In the article, the authors studied the historical background of the foreign language teaching methods which had been used by Russian Methodists and their influence on the works of the teachers. It was analyzed the theoretical ideas on foreign language teaching of Russian linguists and methodologists, such as the works of I. V. Rakhmanov, Z. M. Tsvetkova, V. S. Tsetlin, and S.G. Ter-Minasova. It was also studied analyzed the ways of developing scientific, educational ideas of foreign language teaching in Russia. It was studied the methods, the achieved results on teaching and studying process, advantages of the foreign language teaching methods. The authors conducted a survey where the young and experienced foreign language teachers took part. The authors analyzed the methods which are used by young, inexperienced teachers and experienced teachers in bilingual society as the schools of the Republic of Tatarstan. After researching the works of foreign language teachers, the authors came to the conclusion that since the middle of the 20th century, teachers of a foreign language have started the methods of teaching from grammar-translation to a consciously comparative method of teaching. As the main advantages of this method, teachers believe that the mastery of the language goes through the awareness of its system. Teachers noted in the questionnaires that in teaching a foreign language, it is necessary to take into account the native language of the student. Experienced foreign language teachers simultaneously teach different types of speech activity based on reading and writing. At the same time, text and written exercises were considered as the main source of formed skills and abilities in all types of speech activity.
