Abstract:
The new industrialization environment as a phenomenon influencing higher technical education in Russia is discussed in this article. The restructuring of industrial production, the international division of labor, and continual technological change place countries in a global process of industrialization and constant upgrading of engineering education. The focus of the article is laid on analysis of higher professional education response to modern international economy trends – developing interdisciplinary education with practical skills acquisition. The examples of leading technical universities in Russia and abroad are considered in terms of educational policy, strategic planning initiatives in order to offer advanced training of future specialists and engineers that are in demand in modern economies today. Globalization of higher professional education allows to view universities` profiles and graduates` competences in the focus of talent and work force mobility. The industry demands as well as successful university and industry partnerships for target specialists training are cited. The article discusses policies and measures in engineering education in Russia, National research Tomsk polytechnic university experience in terms of tactical and strategic initiatives as a response to inner and outer university environment challenges in Russia and internationally. The presumed outcomes of modern technical universities tactical and strategic initiatives are understood to result in university products – successful university graduates` - competitive specialists in their professional fields.
