Abstract:
This work presents a comprehensive study aimed at identifying the multidisciplinary skills essential for the success of the Clean Energy Transition (CET). The research, conducted as part of the FemPower consortium project, seeks to empower and diversify the CET workforce by promoting inclusivity, expanding Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education in higher institutions, particularly among women, and fostering interest and excellence in STEAM approach.

For the study, a survey with interviews was conducted involving key stakeholders, including male and female instructors and professionals both within and outside the project’s consortium among different countries including Cyprus, Greece, Italy, France and the Netherlands. Through this survey, we aimed to uncover critical insights into the skills, knowledge, and collaborative strategies required to navigate the evolving landscape of clean energy technologies and sustainability practices.

The findings of this research offer valuable insights into the skills and strategies that are pivotal for advancing the CET while fostering an inclusive environment that empowers women in STEM/STEAM disciplines.

The significance of nurturing soft skills, encompassing abilities like communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and critical thinking, alongside technical expertise is highlighted. Additionally, the study underscores effective approaches for advancing female empowerment. These approaches include the provision of role models, targeted recruitment of women, mentorship programs, support networks, women-focused workshops, and equal opportunities for women.
