Abstract:
Most of the students in Asia have to study English as a second language. In fact, English course is a part of elementary education now in Taiwan. But still, most of the students can’t do the conversation very well because they don’t have too much opportunity to practice the conversation.

So our research implements a web-based collaborative video annotation system for English conversation learning. The system uses English conversation videos as the learning contents, learners can improve their conversation skill by watching videos, reading annotations, and join the discussion. All the users, no matter teachers or learners, can write the annotations on the video at the time point they want, and show it to the others when they are watching the same video. The annotations will show on the video just like subtitles, learners can read it without moving their eyes to the other area.

This research also designs a method to classify and recommend the annotation by the semantic analysis. The system will try to choose and sort the annotations, and generate an annotation list for the video. The list will include limited amount of annotations, and the system will only display the annotations which is in the list. This will make the whole content easier to learn and reduce the loading of the learners.
