Abstract:
In Korea, most (62.4%, 54,705 persons, 2014) of doctorate researchers are working at universities and colleges. On the contrary, only 21.2% of doctorate researchers are working at business enterprises. Therefore, Korean government’s primary concern is enhancing interrelation between university and company for knowledge transfer from university to business. However, a recent survey on knowledge transfer between companies and universities (which is one of the indicators in IMD world competitiveness) shows that Korea is ranked 27th in the 60 countries as 5.16 points out of 10. It is one of the most weak sub-indicators in scientific infrastructure which is ranked 6th. In this study, we investigate various statistics on research cooperation between university and company. And survey on University technology Holdings Company was conducted. Finally, we tried to find out the causes which disturb knowledge transfer from university to business in Korea. As a result, we suggested policy implications on S&T activities.
