LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE REPRESENTED BY USERS OF MODERN TECHNOLOGY CONCEPTS

Abstract:
The major purpose of this article is to analyze opinions expressed by students related to technologies such as: Business Intelligence Systems, Big Data Systems, cloud computing, Internet of Things, Managers’ Dashbord. Article presents the results of research on the level of knowledge represented by students of Faculty of Management (Warsaw University), treated as future users of analysed systems. The research was performed using the CAWI method to evaluate the knowledge of commonly used systems recognised as Business Intelligence Systems within selected sample of university students. The survey was designed in such a way that it gave fun and learn at the same time as answering questions. Questionnaire was designed to verify general knowledge of concepts related to development paths of computer science area, detailed knowledge of definitions of selected IT categories related to the research, knowledge about the technical and infrastructural conditions of the indicated changes within the computer science, opportunities to implement these IT directions in economic practice. A group of almost two hundred randomly selected people from the university environment was examined. The structure of a publication consists of the literature research all together with the defined research hypothesis, the description of the methodology and the research sample, where research process included following steps: prepared questionnaire was verified and validated by new information technology experts, after expert assessment questionnaire was placed at servers of Faculty of Management (Warsaw University), analysis and discussion of research findings, and the last part was dedicated to conclusions related to the research and new IT technology consciousness represented by respondents from the perspective of future users of such solutions. The major finding of the research show that examined test group of students have a very general knowledge of modern information technology used to support management, this knowledge is mostly based on the lectures and laboratories delivered to students during the first years of study, students are lacking the most information on the latest generation of management support systems, gaps in Business Intelligence education results in a lack of experts in Business Intelligence and going further also in poor selection of qualified BI lecturers. The results of the research can be used by people involved in the creation and development of new learning paths for students interested in new information technology courses.Keywords:
