Abstract:
The main purpose of this article is to present preferences and expectations among students associated with their potential future job as an IT professional. Firstly, as an introduction, short overview of the Polish employment market in the field of business informatics systems is presented. Next, the students' perception of current situations of IT specialist, the market conditions and trends in the context of challenges, hopes and fears related to taking up jobs in the related IT professions are analyzed. Additionally, barriers and determinants for choosing of IT professions are examined. Finally shortcomings in university education and ways to overcome them in achieving the position of IT specialists are specified. The research has been carried out using a CAWI method, among students of selected, leading economic universities in Poland. The survey questionnaire, was available to respondents on the servers of the Faculty of Management at the University of Warsaw. The obtained results are discussed and synthetic conclusions are drawn out referring to particular aspects of the conducted study. Recommendations regarding the educational offer are also formulated for students of selected economics universities wishing to work in the IT profession. The limitations of the study as well as the directions for future work in this field are also described.
