Abstract:
Barriers to learning are the reasons for individuals from a community to not have access to or the possibility of attending a form of education. These can be of several types, influenced by many social, demographic, financial, and even cultural factors that depend on people's opportunities to learn. The social factors influencing this issue are limited to the possibilities of the community and to the ideas of development, in the sense that the possibilities of intellectual development are limited by both the habits of the community and the absence of models to guide or attract towards intellectual development. Demographic factors impose barriers in the territorial perspective, in the sense that the distance to an educational unit is impossible, especially under certain weather conditions. Financial factors refer to all the financial activities and needs that a form of education implies. From basic needs (food, water, clothes) to membership needs (certain clothes, access to technology), including teaching materials (office supplies and stationery, books), it requires financial resources. Absence or limitation of these considerably reduces the chances of pursuing a form of education.

On the other hand, there are other learning barriers such as race, age, native intellectual capacity, etc.

In Romania, especially in the marginalized areas, we encounter a cumulus of factors that lead to school dropout or the impossibility of going through a form of education. The purpose of the article was to identify the main reasons for learning barriers, and to include: identifying the extent to which culture influences access to education, measuring the impact of socio-demographic factors on the level of education, identifying potential solutions for education, identifying potential of using alternative forms of education in marginalized areas in Romania.

The research carried out is done on the field by means of the research questionnaire on a sample of 125 persons aged 15-35 from the rural areas in the marginalized areas of Romania.
