Abstract:
This study is a work in progress. By reviewing the current Taiwan English teaching and learning environment of integrating information and communication technology (ICT) into elementary schools, this study has tailored and implemented a situated English vocabulary pronunciation practice system based on mobile platform for a certain elementary school in northern Taiwan. By integrating the mobile speech recognition technique with a 2D barcode scanner, this system will provide 3-6th grade learners with repetitive and distributed pronunciation practices to acquire daily life vocabulary in real contexts. This system can also provide learners with immediate personalized feedback and can record learners’ learning history. Therefore, teachers will be able to give timely helps to individual learners and rectify their pronunciations according to learning portfolios recorded by the system. The design of system and learning contents followed the 3P learning model and Taiwan Grade 1-9th Curriculum Guidelines to ensure that this system can achieve the effect of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL). In order to validate whether the system can help students promote vocabulary learning motivations and improve their learning effects or not, a validation experiment will be held in the near future. The experiment participants will be chosen from an anonymous elementary school, aging from 10 to 13 years old.
