Nowadays, in an avalanche of advances in all areas of science, it is essential for all specialists to be informed of the latest developments in their spheres. In view of this, RUDN University trains translators of special texts at all faculties with the purpose of educating specialists capable of adequate scientific information translation.

While teaching translating and reviewing professional texts, we emphasize the accuracy of terms translation, adequacy of authors’ ideas expression, syntax and grammar of texts being produced.

However, every text in a foreign language can be a source of language-improving, communicative and speech-developing tasks for foreign language students.

For example, while working at an English medical text, the teacher could invent vocabulary and grammar exercises based on the text, develop the students’ listening comprehension by showing films on the topic in question, improve writing skills by having the students prepare reports, practice spoken English by organizing discussions, etc.

In this article, we are reviewing possible ways of language development based on professional texts used in groups of medical EFL students.
