Abstract:
The Study investigated demographic factors and stress effects of Teachers of Public secondary schools in Cameroon. One research question was addressed and a hypothesis formulated by the researcher to guide the study. Specifically the study sought to find out the relationship between gender, qualification, experience, cultural background, school location and school size on Stress effects of teachers. Using the Ex post facto study research design, the study made use of a sample of 986 teachers from a population of 5.482 teachers in South west and Littoral Regions of Cameroon. 405 teachers were sampled from South West and 581 from Littoral by means of proportionate stratified random sampling technique. Data was collected using French and English versions of a 16 item researcher-made questionnaire by an expert translator in Cameroon which has reliability mean of 0.989. Mean was used to answer the research question and multiple regression analysis was used to test the hypothesis at a probability level of 0.05.The results revealed that, inability to manage time and inability to meet deadlines experienced occasionally were the influences of stress on teachers .The combined influence of gender, qualification, experience, cultural background, School location and school size on stress of teachers was significant. School size significantly influences the stress of teachers. It was recommended that Government should provide adequate facilities in all the schools and improve teachers’ welfare.
