Abstract:
This paper presents the effects of system thinking on institutional effectiveness which is of vital importance in Higher Education. As every organization has some disabilities and for the purpose of good governance, effectiveness and development these issues have to be looked into, for which systems thinking plays an important role. Systems thinking provide an opportunity to look into the complex issues of an institution and suggest possible solutions will lead to improvement. This study will identify problem and measures which will help improve the outcome of institutional mission, research, planning, in four universities of Islamabad, Pakistan and to identify corrective and preventive measures for future.
To see how organizations can benefit from systems thinking; a performance evaluation survey was conducted to find out the problems/disabilities and their possible solution through systems thinking for the development of these organizations. To this end discussions were held and interviews were conducted with the top management of these universities. This paper also discusses the future directions which will contribute towards overall effectiveness and improvement of the process and functionality of the system.
