Abstract:
This paper describes how Facebook can be used as a Learning Management System (LMS) to improve learning and teaching experiences in different knowledge fields and educational levels. Using digital and social media for educational purposes has become a hot topic in debate and research lately, since they are very present in the student’s lives. The first part of this study was a research on Google Scholar database, using the keywords “Facebook” and “Teaching and Learning”, looking for academical papers that use Facebook as a LMS. The findings showed different learning and teaching strategies using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). After that, this paper was dedicated to identify and describe the main teaching and learning strategies used, such as videos, texts, apps and the Facebook’s chat. These papers showed that most of the students like to use Facebook as a LMS, specially because of the many features it offers and also because they prefer working with digital media than the traditional classroom activities. This paper presents the approach teachers had at different experiences using Facebook for formal learning and how the students responded at each one of them.
