Abstract:
This paper describes a knowledge management approach for higher-level education as a response to the challenges faced by society in the context of sustainable development. In a world experiencing continuous economic, environmental and technological changes, Universities face new challenges in their role to generate knowledge and promote the well-being of society. A knowledge management model that combines academic excellency along with hands-on practical experience to build multidimensional skills in order to address socio-economic problems is proposed for higher-education. This model emphasizes the importance of identifying the present and future challenges of a society in a global decision-making context; as well as the prioritization of educational resources to establish new strategies in the short, medium and long term planning scenario.

The integration of modern technologies along with traditional teaching methods should result in a higher-education hybrid model to develop multidimensional competencies. These competencies have, as a fundamental pillar, a proactive and creative knowledge management educational approach to boost innovation and creativity as an added value for professional career growth. The development of multidimensional competencies as a result of higher education should foster scientific and technological development, economic growth, and reinforce socio-cultural values. The paper presents a case study based on an educational experience in Peru that demonstrates the synergy among higher-level education management practices, entrepreneurship, and productive development.
