Abstract:
The evolution of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in last 20 years has been impressive; at earliest 90’s, its possible impact, development and advance was barely visible. Individuals from all ages started to live, surprisingly, with fear and excitement the incorporation of hi-tech elements in day-by-day activities; most of them demonstrated a huge value to facilitate the daily tasks, even in areas not conceived a few years ago. By that time –in México, just a few ones had access to mobiles phones, video games and high-quality video systems, like DVD; computers at school environment was very limited and the most of the equipment available had restrained resources just enough to perform very basic activities.
Children have been the more enthusiastic adopters of all these new technological trends looking at them in a natural, fun and, almost, intuitive way. The adults had been playing a “followers” role about these new dynamics; some being very receptive to all these innovative elements and some other with suspicious and doubts about the benefits of incorporating some devices already crowding the environment and its own capabilities to interact and understand with all of them.
History of teaching and learning had accompanied, at any time, the human being and had presented a lot of variables throughout. Revolutionary and reactionary ideas had emerged, some of them had reduced the student and its abilities to a simple container to be filled with knowledge, some other had empowered the individual making an invitation to observe, discuss and analyze the reality. Beyond any theory or specific position regarding education process, the children have maintained an open, curious and eager attitude to discover the environment.
The key question at this time is: how the teachers and students are going to apply the ICTs in the educational atmosphere? What are the benefits reported by these technologies to the teaching-learning process? The final aim of this paper is facilitate the answer of them.
