Abstract:
Recent research has highlighted how system dynamics-based interactive learning environments can be usefully used for the online formative assessment of capabilities developed by participants in a training activity.
This study intends to highlight how the use of such interactive learning environments (ILEs) can be profitably extended to the field of competence certification. Specifically, it is shown how these ILEs can be considered reliable and flexible tools for the online competence certification process, from technical to transversal ones.
In line with the indications provided by the European Qualifications Framework and the competence certification models shared on a European scale (such as the European digital skills certificate which is about to be developed by the European Commission on the basis of the digital skills reference framework for citizens), ILEs allow the evaluation and certification of a competence by breaking it down into its three main elements: knowledge, skills and attitudes (the latter understood as levels of autonomy and responsibility).
What appears particularly interesting is the ability of an ILE to be able to evaluate a single competence at the same time in terms of knowledge, skills and attitudes, thanks to the use of the simulation tool.
The plasticity and effectiveness of the tool in supporting the online competence certification process will be highlighted through the detailed description of a case study. Keywords:
