Abstract:
The science cartoons are one of the important teaching tools which excite the students' attention with its humorous aspect, which provide that the students like the lessons and have a possitive attitude on them, which increase the critical thinking and motivation, which develop the creativity, ability of reasoning and imagination, which provide that the learning becomes permanent and pleasurable by easing the learning. In this sense, it was aimed in this study that the science cartoons are developed in order that they are used in teaching the subjects of wastes and recycling for the secondary education students. The science cartoons related to the recyclable wastes, the separation in the source of wastes, the teaching on the recycling symbol and the symbol of recycling were developed in the research. In the preparation phase of science cartoons, it was determined that all the information related to wastes and recycling was firstly revised, and which sections in the subject were sufficient for the cartooning. The science cartoons related to sections which were determined by the researchers were designed. It was elaborated that the science cartoons included the samples from the daily life while they were designed. The science cartoons which were designed finalized as they were drawn by a cartoonist. As the science education has got intangible and complex subject and concepts, it can cause that the students have the negative opinion, attitude and bias on the science education. Thus, it is thought that it is important to use the science cartoons which increase the interest, motivation and critical thinking in the teaching of science subjects, which make the students active, which bear the traces from the daily life. Moreover, if it is considered how much the science is associated with the daily life, it attracts the attention that the science cartoons are the suitable teaching tool for the teaching of science subjects. Thus, we are opinion that the developed science cartoons will contribute to the educational literature and they will illuminate the researchers who want to study in the subject.
