Abstract:
Planning is the process through which an entity/institution/person prepares, forecasts, and organizes the development of its activities, in accordance with the rules and procedures that guide the area to be planned, establishing, for this purpose, the respective goals and deadlines. It is important, not only to plan the activities before each lesson, but also to do the annual plan.

In all levels of education, the teachers should do the respective plan and it is a process of organizing and coordinating the teaching action, articulating school activity and the problem of the social context. Any planning in education must consider knowledge of the curriculum plan, teaching programs (thematic plans) in addition to policies, strategic plans for education and legislation. It is up to the teachers, individually or in teams, to prepare the lesson plans for the respective subjects, considering the school calendar, different types of regulations and the Mandatory School Guidelines and Tasks.

Having made these thoughts, and about the 1st Cycle of Basic Education (formerly known as Primary Education), the planning work is structured according to a temporal criterion, allowing the production of long-term plans, with an annual scope, medium-term plans term, with a monthly scope, and short-term planning, focused on each day. We can say that long-term planning constitutes the organizing support of medium-term planning and these, in turn, constitute the support of short-term planning.

The purpose of this paper is to analyse the long and short-term plannings that a primary school teacher (Mother of the first author) has made in the school year 1978-1979 in a basic school in north of Portugal. The analysis carried out on these plannings allowed us to conclude that the key aspects that a planning must follow in the current epoch are explicitly and implicitly inserted there. The components of planning - contents, objectives, methodologies, and evaluation - were not ignored, as well as the characteristics of planning - coherence, adequacy, flexibility, continuity, and precision. After about 44 years, this teacher's planning is still current.
