Abstract:
This work, developed with high school students of the Federal Institute of Science, Education and Technology (IFF) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, presents the first actions of an extension Project named "The newspaper in school - a multidisciplinary proposal". The newspaper is a media school with focus on student learning and therefore has an essentially pedagogical proposal. In this sense, our goal was to bring students to an everyday language and dynamics - while considering writing standards -; and encourage the use of information and communication technologies. At first, through workshops, we present students with the educational material proposed by the School Journal Portal (2014) about the gender opinion article. In this genre, the author argues for his thesis by proposal mean or position. He should also consider the existence of people who think differently, or even opposed to his. Therefore, for students to substantiate their texts with arguments and relevant information on the chosen topic, it took them to do their research in the school and local community, through interviews, surveys on social networks and Internet searches. In addition, during the workshops, portuguese teachers encouraged the exchange of texts so that students could give and take constructive criticism in order to improve their written and their arguments. After the texts reviewed, the students were encouraged to take part in a reading circles in order to select the most creative texts and well-founded to be part of the first edition of the newspaper. Then, the electronic layout of the school newspaper was made in the free text editor Libre Office. The students were responsible for making the sorting and formatting of text and drawings with the use of features such as tables, choosing the type and size of letters used, among others. With the progress of the project, the teachers realized that by including the technology as a way to aid learning, students have greater commitment to carry out further research on the contents studied in the classroom and subjects for the next newspaper editions. Keywords:
