Abstract:
Numerous studies show the positive effects of gamification in educational environments. This research identifies the way in which the creation of learning scenarios in immersive virtual worlds can contribute to the teaching-learning process in higher education students through the Minecraft Education Edition (MEE) tool, allowing students to develop and evaluate activities learning within the context of the classroom. We evaluated the results of the use of learning scenarios in immersive worlds in 43 fourth-year university students who are taking the Computer Center Administration course in the Administrative Informatics Degree at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, in Mexico, with the objective to provide empirical evidence related to learning through immersive scenarios. Four scenarios with MEE are developed and implemented during the course of the subject, each one of them represents a thematic unit. To evaluate the results of the implementation of the scenarios, the use of the tool was analyzed by designing a 20-item test divided into four scales: Game-based learning (6), Gamification in educational contexts (6), Active learning (4) and Fun (4). The final results show that the use of virtual learning environments in the teaching-learning process of higher education improves creativity, collaborative work, innovation, communication and the development of new skills in students. Keywords:
