TRANSFORMATION OF UNIVERSITY LEARNING IN THE ERA OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: ANALYSIS OF DIGITAL COMPETENCIES IN HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS

Abstract:
In recent years, the rapid advancement of digital technologies, especially artificial intelligence (AI), has significantly changed the way students learn in higher education. Nowadays, it is no longer enough to attend classes or memorize content; students need to know how to use technology effectively, adapt to new digital environments, and develop skills that allow them to learn more independently. In this context, digital competencies have become a key element for academic performance and personal development.
The aim of this study is to analyze how digital competencies are influencing the transformation of university learning, considering the growing use of technological tools and artificial intelligence in higher education. To achieve this, a quantitative approach with a descriptive design was used, involving undergraduate students from different academic programs within a higher education institution.
Data were collected through a structured questionnaire designed to explore students’ digital skills, their use of technological tools for academic purposes, and their ability to adapt to learning environments supported by artificial intelligence. A Likert-scale format was used to capture students’ perceptions and experiences regarding their level of digital competence.
The analysis of the results showed that students demonstrate a good command of basic digital tools; however, there are still difficulties when it comes to using technology in a more critical, strategic, and autonomous way, especially in relation to artificial intelligence. This suggests that, although progress has been made, there are still important gaps in students’ digital training.
In conclusion, this study provides a better understanding of how learning processes are evolving in higher education and highlights the need to strengthen students’ digital competencies. This involves not only teaching how to use technology, but also fostering the ability to think critically and use artificial intelligence responsibly and effectively in their learning process.Keywords:
