Abstract:
International undergraduate nursing students were encouraged to participate in the learning experience via YouTube. The group of students are from the coral atolls of Kiribati and are studying the Diploma of Nursing in Australia. 2010 has seen the arrival of an altered pathway for student learning with the availability of a virtual learning environment. Teachers of the new Millennium must move forward and be inclusive of the world wide innovative experience. The 2010 class of students were encouraged to actively take part in the learning experience by producing their own presentations each week under the guidance of their teacher. Results were interesting with all students enthusiastically participating in the learning experience. Students were also encouraged to use any form of the expressive arts such as sculpture, drawing and power point presentations. Final examinations and focus groups of students were interviewed to determine the effectiveness of a student centred virtual classroom. Keywords:
