Abstract:
This paper aims to show a method of assessment of learning outcomes by means of rubrics in the subject Statistics I in the Finance and Accounting Degree. In this subject and throughout the semester, the students must acquire the following competence: To know and understand the basic statistical tools for the description and presentation of financial and business results.
The problem arises when trying to assess whether the student has acquired the aforementioned competence.
Therefore, in lab classes a series of practical activities are conducted to assess the learning outcomes described below:
• Ability to recognize an economic problem from observing economic reality.
• Ability to search, select and evaluate appropriate information for analysis.
• Identify, classify, reason, argue and interpret the relationships between economic variables.
• Ability to select a theoretical framework for the development of the analysis.
• Knowledge and understanding of the basic tools of quantitative nature for analysis, diagnostic and economic survey, such as mathematics, statistics and econometrics.
• Management of basic quantitative tools and their application to economic environment.
• Ability to develop a report.
Practical activities are developed in each of the laboratory sessions and, at the end of the course, a report is written and delivered. But this is not the only evaluation carried out: throughout the semester a number of rubrics are created to assess the learning outcomes, so that each student gets feedback throughout the whole period and it permits to quantify the global mark of the continuous assessment.
