Abstract:
The use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is transforming the practice of learning and how our students are assessed. As an example, we show the development of e-portfolios in a blended-learning scenario where face-to-face (F2F) and online teaching combine.
At the Escuela Universitaria Politécnica of Almadén, we initiated an e-portfolio project for those engineering students who attended the Technical English subject in the 2008-09 course.
E-potfolios allow our students the use of synchronous and asynchronous modes of interaction as well as new forms of self-assessment where students learn together, share information and work collaboratively.
The potential of e-portfolios in a blended-learning environment is part of an educational innovation project carried out at the Escuela Universitaria Politécnica of Almadén. In this project using e-portfolios, students are responsible of their own progress and achievements, encouraging the reflection on their own learning.
The European Higher Education Area (EHEA) is suffering a transformation that affects not only to teachers and students but also to the processes involved. The use of e-portfolios are becoming more and more popular in Higher Education. This paper is based on the experience of using the e-portfolio as a tool of assessment through objectives, competences and activities.
