Abstract:
The main objective of the research was to assess the training of managerial competences of postgraduate students in administration in their first year of study in the strategic, intra-strategic and personal effectiveness dimensions. The previous literature that was used was the contributions of Cardona & Chinchilla (1998), García - Lombardía, Cardona & Chinchilla (2001), Escobar (2005), Boyatzis (2008) and Varela (2010). The relevance of the research was due to the fact that globalization has led companies to constantly face survival, to grow and to be profitable in a highly changing environment that has led to work with a level of effectiveness and efficiency based on chains of value integrated with the key agents (customers, partners, suppliers, workers and government), as well as the opening of markets, the development of electronic commerce and the increasing use in telecommunications, which has generated a new perspective of the training for employment focusing on the management of professional competences in relation to their development, relationship with the labor sector and decision making so that human talent is the fundamental element that allows generating innovative strategies in companies that allow responding to the changing conditions in the markets, as well as promoting not only economic but also integral growth in organizations. Therefore, the employee that requires the knowledge society is a university graduate with a highly trained postgraduate training that allows him to integrate different work teams, to perform diverse roles adapting rapidly to changes, as well as to manage a set of managerial competences. The type of study used was a quantitative methodology with an exploratory scope. The instrument that was designed to obtain the information was a questionnaire based on a Likert scale, to which the expert judgment was conducted to determine the validity of its content to later calculate its reliability and internal consistency using the Cronbach alpha coefficient that was of 0.882, so it was interpreted as adequate. To organize the information, both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to carry out the data analysis. The research sample was non-probabilistic with the criterion of convenience because the selected participants were those who completed the first year of their postgraduate degree in administration at the National Polytechnic Institute and that were a total of 52 participants. The main results of the study were that students have an initial level of training in the management field in strategic, intra-strategic and research competences valued as insufficient and a moderate level in personal effectiveness competences. In the same way, statistically significant differences were found by gender (t = 5,186, p = 0.00); age (ANOVA, F = 9.238, p <0.05) and work experience (ANOVA, F = 8.675, p <0.05). The main conclusion was to determine the level of development of managerial competences in postgraduate students in administration in order to design and implement training strategies focused on the consolidation of these capacities. Keywords:
