Abstract:
The present work analyzed the use of school garden as a useful and effective resource for the science teaching-learning process in the Early Childhood Education. An investigation has been carried out on the use of school gardens in real practice, through the perspective of in-service teachers with experience working on them, from up to 12 different preschool educational centers. The objective was to know and analyze different opinions about their advantages and drawbacks. The results of this research indicate that the creation and maintenance of the school gardens have some disadvantages such as lack of time, space and tools, as well as the lack of collaboration and consideration by other educational agents. Despite this, school gardens are considered a very favorable educational resource that allows students to enhance their knowledge in a manipulative and experiential way, establishing relationships between curricular content and those of everyday life, thus achieving more meaningful and experiential learning due to its transversal and multidisciplinary approach.
