Abstract:
Computer Science has a specific position in Slovak educational system. It is a young subject, that had been integrated with other subjects several times. It had been relegated to the periphery of education. And finally, during last few years, it had been integrated into the primary school as compulsory subject from the second class. Over the last few years we observe that the level of first year student’s knowledge is decreasing. The essence of this problem, especially in the natural sciences, is different quality of secondary education. Students bring very different skills and habits. „Modern computer science - new methods and forms for effective education“ is a project aimed at implementing new methods and forms of education of computer science and creating of teaching aids and educational materials for improving the quality of future and current teachers education. Theses study materials, need not to be addressed only to a selected group of teacher, but also among all students of Computer Science. One of project aims is to analyze the perception of Computers Science students from their point of view. The aim is determination of the level of perception of Computer sicence, its content and its position in everyday life, secondary school students and secondary school graduates. The survey will determine and compare teachers' views on current issues and problem in teaching informatics, in thinking of students and their interests. We consider a comparation of results with students from other country as a very important part of the project. Electronic questionnaire survey was conducted in the fall semester of 2013 at five universities in Slovakia (141 responses) and at five universities in Czech Republic (28 responses). The questionnaire was conducted on an anonymous basis. The questionnaire was divided into several sections: student relationship to a personal computer and mobile devices, expresion of knowledge level in selected areas, information about high school, college selection and expectations for the future. In this paper we present the analysis of studends‘ responses. According the results, we will focus on the creation of teaching aids and materials. In order to monitor of development of attitude to computer science students and to verify the effectiveness of the established materials during next years of the project. The introduction of mandatory information studies from the second year of primary school, an increase of taught computer science at secondary schools, as well as setting common content knowledge and competencies are likely informatic situation awareness and literacy of students increases. The next year of the project we want to extend the questionnaire into the Poland and Slovenia.
