Abstract:
With the development of big data, artificial intelligence and virtual technology, liberal arts are given new missions and new development trends, and more and more universities are trying to break through traditional disciplinary barriers and explore and improve the construction of interdisciplinary disciplines. As a kind of art education, visual communication design is also a representative new interdisciplinary major in the liberal arts. However, the interdisciplinary development of visual communication design art majors still faces many dilemmas, such as unbalanced curriculum, lack of teacher talents, lack of practical teaching cases and cross-disciplinary barriers. Taking the undergraduate visual communication design major at Xijing University as an example, this study investigates the current situation of interdisciplinary curriculum construction and teaching of visual communication design at the university through questionnaires and interviews, with student needs as the guide. The results of the study show that the undergraduate programme at Xijing University has adopted a professional computer course that integrates with the art and design programme, promoting an open teaching model and facilitating students' innovative thinking in the context of the new era. The joint interdisciplinary cultivation of visual communication design art teaching between enterprises and art colleges can meet the needs of students and provide them with more rich interdisciplinary knowledge theories and contents.

Therefore, the author suggests that:
1. art majors in visual communication design and enterprises carry out interdisciplinary teaching to realise the requirements of interdisciplinarity in the context of the new liberal arts.
2. design majors integrate with other related art disciplines, integrate artistic aesthetic thinking to penetrate into the majors and break the barriers between disciplines.
