Abstract:
Phubbing refers to the practice of snubbing a face-to-face conversational partner by giving the phone more attention. Even though it is a widespread phenomenon, studies corroborate that it is a harmful experience that should be addressed as a public health problem. For this reason, researchers have focused on it and scientific research about this behaviour has grown exponentially in recent years. However, there is a lack of bibliometric studies to analyse this research in order to provide data for future research. Therefore, the aim of this article is to provide a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of phubbing. This is the first study based on a citation, co-occurrence and co-citation approach using scientific maps generated with VOSviewer software. Among other results, the maps show, so far, that this behaviour has been studied mainly in romantic relationships, and to a lesser extent in family, work and peer relationships. Phenomena such as the gratifications sought when using the Internet, the tendency towards social comparison on social networks, impulsivity or the influence of executive functions are variables that have yet to be studied. Moreover, how phubbing relates to other disorders is another aspect for future studies. It is expected that the results of this review will encourage and guide future research in this field by providing important resources for psychologists, health professionals and educators.
