Abstract:
The central role of research in universities and the close relationship that exists with learning processes are the issues of a lively scientific debate fuelled by numerous international studies, aimed at identifying models of connection between research and teaching. In general, the results of these studies, although varying according to the subjects involved, seem to support the idea that a connection can improve both teaching and research provided that specific strategies are implemented (Rossi, Magnoler, Marcelli, 2011).

Starting from these considerations, the authors will illustrate a technological approach to design through some didactic experiences carried out in the workshops of technological subjects (SSD ICAR 12 - Technology of Architecture) of the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design of the University of Campania, during the last year of a learning path. The workshop, which represents one of the final moments of the learning path, works in two ways: on one hand, it allows to test the student's ability to deal with real and current topics by integrating the knowledge acquired during the course. While, on the other, it provides the teacher with the opportunity to apply methodological approaches acquired from basic research.

The theme of the control of the transformations of the built environment in an eco-oriented key represents the common research line of the project proposals that will highlight several aspects related to the specificities of the technological subject, aimed at guaranteeing the quality control of the product and the architectural process in relation to the economic, environmental and social dimensions of the project. The proposed methodological approach aims to stimulate the student's ability to synthesise in dealing with the different aspects of the construction process, taking into account both the complex relationship between the various technical, economic, environmental and social factors, which affect the urban transformation processes and methodologies as well as the instruments and procedures for controlling these interventions at different observation scales, from the open to the built space.
